Interview Advice

job interview research

1. Know your facts and figures

As a professional you are likely to have a good working knowledge of your industry. We advise that you also conduct really thorough research into the company that you are interviewing for. Knowing the company is not only going to add to your professionalism, but it will also help you to decide if the company is a good fit for you.

2. Be ready for questions

Sometimes, when conducting research and preparing your own questions, it is easy to forget to consider what questions might be directed at you. It doesn’t matter what stage you are at in your career, you’re likely to be asked some of the standard questions, so we advise our candidates to be ready for them. We have listed some examples of questions here.

3. Consider what you want to know

Everyone knows that you should ask questions at an interview to show your interest and enthusiasm. It is good to think about what you want to know when writing your questions, because this is your chance to interview them and decide if this is the role for you.

4. Know what the interviewer is looking for

We suggest that you read through the job description carefully so that you have a really good idea of what the role responsibilities are and the expertise required. By ensuring that you have a good knowledge of what the interviewer is looking for, you will know what you need to put across in your interview.

5. Give a firm handshake and smile

It is an obvious one, but not everyone does it. It is good to begin your interview with a firm handshake and smile, making that positive first impression and showing that you are confident.

6. Present yourself

If you’ve been in your industry for a number of years then the interviewer is likely to have high expectations. We advise that you choose what you wear carefully and make sure it reflects the company image. Again this contributes to making a good first impression.
