According to The Guardian’s 2019 university league table, these are the best universities in the UK right now.
Take a look and see where your university features.
Maintaining their top spot with an impressive score of 100/100 is the University of Cambridge. It’s not an easy university to get into, in fact, Cambridge requires higher grades than anywhere else in the UK, however, once there 91% of students are satisfied with the teaching and 89% are satisfied with their course.
Coming in second place with a score of 97.4/100 is, unsurprisingly, the University of Oxford. Considered to be the oldest university in the English-speaking world, Oxford has certainly stood the test of time and continues to deliver a first-class student experience.
Hot on the heels of Oxford with a score of 97.2/100 is the University of St Andrews. It is the oldest of the four ancient universities of Scotland and the third oldest university in the English-speaking world (following Oxford and Cambridge Universities).
Climbing two places from last year, Loughborough University comes in fourth place with a score of 87.9/100. Loughborough ranks particularly highly for engineering and technology and is noted for its sports-related courses and achievements.
Dropping one place since last year, Durham University is still a very respectable fifth with a score of 87.6/100. Durham has held a top 10 spot in The Guardian’s table since 2012.
The University of Bath comes in sixth place with a score of 84.1/100. In The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2014 the university was awarded the title of “Best Campus University in Britain”.
Dropping from sixth to seventh place this year is Imperial College London with a score of 83.3/100. Despite this, their tough entry requirements still make Imperial the second hardest university to get into in terms of required grades.
Maintaining eighth position is the University of Warwick with a score of 80.9/100. Commenting on the news, the University of Warwick’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Stuart Croft, said:
“I’m delighted that our university has once more been named as one of the UK’s top ten by the Guardian’s University Guide.
“This remarkable achievement is welcome recognition of the Warwick community’s dedication to our university – and I thank them for all they contribute to our continued success.”
Lancaster University is ranked as ninth in the country with a score of 80.2/100, equalling its position from the previous year and remaining in the top ten of all three major UK league tables. Lancaster University is currently also the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide University of the Year.
The University of Leeds has moved into the Guardian University Guide top ten for the first time, jumping four places and rising for the fourth consecutive year with a score of 78.8/100.
Professor Tom Ward, Deputy-Vice-Chancellor: Student Education, said: “This position highlights the excellence across the board that is on offer at Leeds; in the quality of our teaching, our research, our international focus, and the way in which we nurture students by creating a supportive and friendly environment.”
