Did you know that we can process visuals 60,000 times faster than text? This would certainly seem to suggest that we should ditch lengthy text and descriptions for images when trying to portray our ideas and messages to an audience.
So where can you use visuals in your work to better communicate with your audience?
1. In Presentations
Think about ways that you can include interesting images in your pitches and presentations. These should be images that compliment and contribute your ideas and what you talking about at the time. Let’s face it, images are a lot more interesting to look at than a list of bullet points.
2. On social media
Whether you have control of your company’s social media or are sharing things on your own professional profiles, think about posting images instead of plain text. Images may not only do a better job of communicating your message, but they are also a whole lot more eye-catching.
3. When selling/advertising
Images obviously play a huge role in advertising or selling a product or a service and are often more influential than the words that accompany them. If this is something you are involved in, considering whether enough thought is going into the selection of these images. Are they targetting a specific audience? Do they display enough information? With consumers making much snappier decisions, the visual image needs to do a lot of the work for you.
There are lots of other ways that you can try to incorporate visuals into your communication. Keep an eye out for visual opportunities to see where you can improve your methods.
